Below are the results and reaction from episode nine of Lucha Underground’s third season:
“This will be extremely brief this week, since I have only just managed to watch Lucha Underground.”
Dario opens the show with his dial of doom. It lands on “Dario’s Choice”, and he chooses Cortez Castro.
Lucha Underground Championship Match: Matanza Cueto (c) vs. Cortez Castro
Castro has his arm in a plaster cast, since Pentagon Dark broke it a few weeks ago. The match is short, with Matanza breaking the cast off and beating Castro with it. He quickly hits the Wrath of the Gods for the win.
Matanza Cueto def. Cortez Castro
Dario called Cortez a rat, because he knows he’s a cop.
“A short match that showed off Matanza’s dominant and violent nature. It needed to be all Matanza, since Dario was trying to punish Castro.”
Joey Ryan and Dario laugh about what happened to Castro. Son of Havoc and Mascarita Sagrada come in. Sagrada wants to face Famous B. Dario agrees to the match, and says that the winner of Son of Havoc versus Dr Wagner Jr gets to pick the stipulation for that match. That match is next.
Prince Puma is in the ring, and challenges to Mil Muertes to Grave Consequences next week. Catrina accepts the challenge, and Muertes attacks Puma from behind. Puma comes out on top to end the segment.
“Can’t wait for next week now.”
Son of Havoc vs. Dr Wagner Jr
Havoc kicks off with some suicide dives and a moonsault from the barricade. Wagner then took over and Famous B got involved with some cheap shots. Havoc fought back and eventually hit a Shooting Star Press for the victory.
Son of Havoc def. Dr Wagner Jr
Son of Havoc announces that the stipulation for next week’s match between Famous B and Sagrada is a “Believer’s Backlash” match, and says that all of the fans should bring some sort of weapon.
“A quick match that was fine, but the two competitors lacked chemistry. The stipulation for next week is interesting, and that combined with Grave Consequences means that we are in for a great show next week.”
Another vignette for the White Rabbit aired. Paul London looks well-suited to this role.
Loser Leaves Lucha: Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr
A match we have seen a lot, but this time it has a greater stipulation. The match itself was pretty similar to most matches we’ve seen from these two. Rey launched Chavo into his father in the crowd at one point. Chavo Sr then came into the ring with a chair and hit his son with it. This meant Chavo won by DQ. Dario Cueto came out and was not happy with the finish. He ordered the match be restarted, this time with No DQ’s. Mysterio hit Chavo Sr with a 619, before hitting his son with one too and a splash to win. Chavo Guerrero Jr is now banished from Lucha Underground.
Rey Mysterio def. Chavo Guerrero.
“A good match and I’m glad that this feud had ended this quick. We’ve seen Rey and Chavo face off so much over the years, so this one important match was good. Both men haven’t been at their best in Lucha Undergound, probably because of their age, but Rey has been better than Chavo. Chavo leaving was the better choice, since Rey has been treated like a God and Chavo has been pretty stale. The twist in the middle was a nice shock, and Dario restarting the match because he likes violence was extremely fitting of his character. A good match, but not the best they’ve had.”
“A good show from Lucha Underground this week, but it only served to heighten excitement for next week. The matches weren’t as good as they could have been, but they had stipulations that made them more intriguing. Chavo probably won’t be missed, and I can’t wait for the two matches announced for next week’s show. 7/10 this week.”
