Why In The ‘Blue’ Hell Are There 4 Commentators On SmackDown Live?

Member the days where we just had JR and Lawler? Oh, I member.

Tom Phillips (Felipe, Ricky, Phil, Todd, or whatever name Jeri-KO baptizes him with), has once again become part of SD Live’s broadcast team. Now we have four people in the helm of the announcers table. It is crowded and it is ridiculous. The ‘voices’ of smackdown has become like a kickoff panel of some sorts.

So why have they brought in Tom Phillips? This is because David Otunga will be fired or assigned to a less important role before ‘Mania 33. This hasn’t been confirmed but it has been talked about: backstage and in the locker room. The Harvard Law School graduate used to be the Raw Pre-show guy. But as one of SD’s on air personalities, it seems most of the time he has been out of place.

One thing we can thank him for is for coining the term ‘no-chin music.’ Good luck Otunga! Say hello to Jennifer Hudson for us.

Who would you rather have in the SmackDown Live commentator team?
