The contractual status of New Japan’s Kenny Omega’s been a hot topic after coming off a highly lauded performance in the Tokyo Dome against Kazuchika Okada.
He reportedly has a new deal on the table from NJPW, but is keeping his options open, and the wrestling world is watching to see where he’ll land on Feb. 1 (his current contract is supposedly up on the last day of January)
Naturally, his name came up in an interview with WWE’s Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative, Paul “Triple H” Levesque. Speaking to ESPN in advance of this weekend’s United Kingdom Championship Tournament, when asked about Omega, The Game did not back down, and showed a lot of interest.
As far as Kenny Omega goes, I’m just interested in talent, period.
If somebody is talented as a performer and they wanna come work for the WWE, if they wanna come to the largest platform in the world where they can truly show what they do off on a global basis, then WWE is the choice for them. If they wanna come work for us and they’re very talented, then I’m interested in talking to them, and that’s across the board.
To me, anytime anybody questions me on a talent — Am I interested in them? — the fact that you’re questioning me on them means that person is probably pretty talented, so, yes, I’m interested.
Speculation will continue to heat up until an official announcement comes from Omega or we see him in WWE. Keep in mind his contract doesn’t end with NJPW until AFTER the Royal Rumble, so the chances that he appears there are very slim.
Will we see yet another Bullet Club member in the WWE soon?
