William Regal’s old pal/rival/nemesis Tajiri returned to WWE recently. After a warmly received stint in the Cruiserweight Classic (CWC), the former tag, United States and cruiserweight champion recently was introduced on 205 Live and looked to be starting a program with Brian Kendrick.
Last night (Jan. 16) on Raw, Kendrick worked with Cedric Alexander with little attention paid to his green mist incident a few weeks back. Now we know why.
WWE.com revealed a short time ago that Tajiri is dealing with a knee issue, and is currently not medically cleared to compete. The injury is said to have occurred at the Jan. 5 NXT taping at Full Sail Live, where the 46 year old worked what looked like a dark match segment toward the end of the show.
No word on the severity of the injury, or how long he might be on the shelf. The booking of the cruiserweights on Raw and 205 Live has been focused on more veteran performers like Tajiri and Kendrick of late, but with only one official match under his belt on the main roster, it’s difficult to tell what plans WWE had for the Japanese Buzzsaw.
Without knowing those kinds of details, it’s also impossible to speculate on how this setback could effect his future with the company. But given his age, you have to wonder if his window to work for WWE as a performer might not have closed.
We’ll update with more details as they’re available.
