On Sunday April 30th live on WWE Network the fifth edition of WWE Payback will take place as the first Raw-branded event in the aftermath of WrestleMania 33. With some great matches set to take place on the show, it is definitely worth diving into the event’s past in order to experience some great matches that have taken place in the previous years. Here are 5 WWE Payback Matches You Have to See:

1. CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho at WWE Payback 2013

From the inaugural edition of WWE Payback, CM Punk returned to the Allstate Arena in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois to take on old rival, Chris Jericho. After suffering a devastating loss to The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29, Punk took a leave of absence from the company, leaving fans to wonder when The Straight Edge Superstar would return. On an episode of The Highlight Reel, Jericho interviewed Punk’s manager, Paul Heyman and challenged Punk to a match at Payback. Heyman accepted on his client’s behalf, and on Sunday June 16th Punk returned and faced Y2J in an epic match. An excellent back and forth bout with false finishes galore, throw in a Codebreaker out of nowehere and back to back GTS’ from Punk and this makes for a match definitely worth another viewing.

2. John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt in a Last Man Standing match at WWE Payback 2014

A rivalry that wasn’t as epic as people would have hoped had an epic end as Bray Wyatt and John Cena fought until there truly was only one man left standing. With one-on-one wins tied at one a piece, this was the necessary rubber match between these two superstars that more than made up for the arguably lackluster matches held prior, and with the addition of The Usos to counteract Luke Harper & Erick Rowan, the playing field was finally level. Devastating finishing maneuvers, table spots, barricade crashes and magnificent psychological warfare, this bout more than proved that Wyatt can indeed hang with the top guy in the company, and that Cena can still put on great matches when he has the chance to do so.

3. The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns) vs. Evolution (Triple H, Randy Orton and Batista) in a No Holds Barred Elimination match at WWE Payback 2014

The final pay-per view team-up of The Shield saw them go toe-to-toe once again with one of the most formidable groups in WWE history, Evolution. After being defeated by The Shield at the previous month’s Extreme Rules pay-per view, Evolution began to systematically dismantle the group, costing Dean Ambrose his United States Championship, aiding The Wyatt Family in a victory over The Hounds of Justice, beating the 3 men down, and executing the triple powerbomb on Roman Reigns. The Shield laid out the challenge for Payback and it was off to the races, with an incredible hardcore and hard-hitting bout that saw six men try and beat each other down like there was legitimate hatred between the two groups. From powerbombs through a table, crowd brawling, dives off the titantron, and an appearance by the handy dandy sledgehammer, this is arguably the greatest match in WWE Payback history, and a match that you definitely have to see.
