I was one of the many WWE Network subscribers that immediately DELETED the subscription right after WrestleMania. Aside from budgetary concerns in my end, I also feel that the Superstars and creative booking are taking a step back in quality when it comes to the first PPV after ‘Mania.

Here are the reasons why Payback is already going to be a lackluster PPV:

The final Monday Night Raw or even the Smackdown Live episodes prior to Payback was nothing near a bonafide build

The main event was Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose vs. The Miz and Bray Wyatt. I’m scratching my head just saying that. New Raw Superstar, Dean, is not even going to have a match a Payback. He’ll just interrupt the Miz TV segment at Payback and that’s it.

No Universal Championship match; or even *ahem, Jinder* a ‘World’ WWE Championship match

The night after WrestleMania is always expected be the vacation season for our part timers such as Brock Lesnar and John Cena. If Payback is going to be a Raw exclusive PPV, how can the Universal Championship or even the Intercontinental Championship, not be defended on that night? The House of Horrors match between Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt is not advertised as a WWE Championship match!

Seth Rollins – Samoa Joe: Yes, they are having a match at Payback

With Seth’s new finisher and Samoa Joe’s first PPV match since Fastlane, this feud/program brings a breath of fresh air to Raw. However, we don’t see any of the emotional resentment between the two during the feud’s build.

We know that Kevin Owens and Randy Orton are going to win their respective matches

Chris Jericho basically said his goodbyes at a dark segment after Raw last week. Therefore, we know that Y2J is putting Kevin Owens over again. Now, there is a good chance that Wyatt wins the House of Horrors match since Orton’s title is not on the line. This is to put Wyatt over for a better position on Monday nights. Expect Jinder Mahal to maybe make an appearance, or even a Finn Balor appearance to further develop the Wyatt-Balor feud.

We already saw Braun Strowman versus Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns buried Strowman at Fastlane in February. We need to have at least a dusty finish for Strowman to not be further buried into irrelevance. I hope we get to see the next feudmate of Roman and/or Braun, during the match.

The Payback Pre-show may even be more watched than the Payback PPV

Finn Balor’s appearance on Miz TV and the match between the Club and Enzo/Cass may be even more interesting that the PPV itself in some aspects.

But then again, we will watch Payback, nevertheless no matter how it sucks because we are the WWE Universe. However, I’m just gonna stay tuned to The 434 updates rather than re-subscribing to the WWE Network at this point.
