Dean Ambrose and The Miz are two of Monday Night Raw’s newest members. They returned to The Red Brand just a few weeks ago in the WWE Superstar Shake-Up. The pair have since made the Intercontinental Championship the most important title on Raw. With that being said, that title may be in the main event of the craziest pay-per-view of the year.
The Lunatic Fringe captured the Intercontinental Title from The Miz back in January. He has since defended it few times. The IC Title wasn’t the most prestigious Championship on Smackdown Live since the WWE Championship was also on the show. It slipped under the radar. So much that it was moved to the Pre-Show at WrestleMania where Ambrose defeated Baron Corbin.
The Miz held the Intercontinental Championship for most of 2016. He won the title on the Raw after WrestleMania from Zack Ryder and held it for almost the entire rest of the year. The A Lister really made the IC title one of the most “Must See” things in all of WWE. He finally lost his beloved Championship to Dolph Ziggler at No Mercy in a Career vs Title match. But no worries, he would win it back just a few weeks later.
Since returning to Monday Night Raw, Ambrose and Miz have reignited their rivalry from months earlier. A refreshing new aspect to The Red Brand since the United States Championship was traded to Smackdown. The IC title is now the only Mid-Card Championship on Raw. This allows several Superstars such as Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and Braun Strowman to have an opportunity to challenge for a title they have never held.
The Miz will challenge for The Intercontinental Championship this Monday on Raw. If he were to win the title, Ambrose would be owed a rematch. A rematch that could take place at one of the most entertaining Pay-Per-View’s of the year. Extreme Rules returns on June 4th as a Raw exclusive show. If The A Lister does win the title, it’s safe to say that the rematch will occur there.
The Universal Championship has not been defended or even shown on Monday Night Raw since WrestleMania. Brock Lesnar beat Goldberg for the title and since then has disappeared. He isn’t scheduled to show his face until the weeks approaching WWE Great Balls Of Fire, where he is set to make his first title defense. Knowing that, The Universal Title will not be main eventing Extreme Rules. Leaving The Lunatic Fringe and The A Lister to close out the show.
What do you think? Would it be interesting to see Dean Ambrose and The Miz main event Extreme Rules? Let us know in the comments!!
