The Smackdown Women’s Championship has been a hot topic of discussion lately. Especially since it wasn’t defended at The Blue Brand’s most recent pay-per-view, Backlash. There the Smackdown Women’s Champion Naomi teamed up with Charlotte and Becky Lynch. That trio took on “The Welcoming Committee” in Natalya, Tamina and Carmella.

“The Welcoming Committee” would take the win at Backlash, but Charlotte and Becky Lynch would retaliate the next Tuesday on Smackdown. The pair defeated Natalya and Carmella in tag team action with their teammate Naomi at ringside.

Since the Smackdown Women’s title wasn’t defended at Backlash, fans were left wondering who would be the next challenger. But, has that answer already been revealed? Has the new #1 Contender been hiding under our noses for weeks? The new challenger for the title will be revealed this Tuesday on SDL. There will be a fatal 5-Way match, and the winner will challenge Naomi at the Smackdown exclusive Pay-Per-View Money in the Bank. The person expected to win that match? Someone very unexpected, especially this early in her career.

The Princess of Staten Island holds two recent victories over Naomi, the current Champion. That puts her in prime title contention. Since joining the Blue Brand in the WWE Draft last summer, Carmella hasn’t had a singles opportunity to challenge for the Smackdown Women’s Championship. She has competed in a 6-Pack Challenge for the title at WrestleMania, but Naomi was the one who was victorious.

Carmella has proven to be a real contender on SDL. She has blossomed since her days as Enzo and Big Cass’s manager in NXT. She even has her own manager now in the form of James Ellsworth, an odd couple indeed. Now is the perfect time for her to become the #1 Contender, especially since she is fresh off a big win at Backlash. The Princess has what it takes to become Champion. Although her first reign isn’t expected to make many waves on The Blue Brand. It’s a nice start to a lengthy career in the WWE.

We will find out who the #1 Contender for the Smackdown Women’s Championship will be next week on SDL. Who has what it takes to challenge Naomi at Money in the Bank? Let us know in the comments!
