On a Media Conference Call IMPACT Broadcaster, Jeremy Borash announced that the company had signed two new AAA and Lucha underground stars set to debut next month.
Johnny Mundo and Taya will be starting with IMPACT this August on live events. Their appearances will take place on August 4th in Long Island, August 5th in Staten Island and August 6th in Bridgeport, CT. Johnny currently holds the AAA Mega Title, the AAA Latin American Title and the AAA World Cruiserweight Title. Mundo had left WWE (Performing under the ring name John Morrison) in 2011 after a serious neck injury citing the need take a break to heal as well as creative frustrations with his position on the roster even though WWE wanted to renew his contract . Since then, he has gone on to make a name on the Indie Circuit before joining AAA and Lucha Underground.
Taya was recently stripped of the AAA Women’s title over very controversial circumstances leading to her departure from the company. Mundo (Real name John Hennigan) blasted AAA Talent Director Vampiro for “backstabbing” Taya and getting her title taken away. Apparently AAA asked Taya’s boyfriend Johnny Mundo to bring the title belt with him a few weeks ago for photos. When he did, the company announced that the championship was vacant. Vampiro would later tell the crowd that Taya no-showed the TV tapings, even though she wasn’t scheduled to be there. Hennigan’s position is interesting as he is still a multi-champion for AAA.
Although some fans might be excited to see the couple in GFW, this situation doesn’t look quite over. From the looks of the situation, Lucha Underground might have to pay the consequences for this debacle. Both Vampiro and Mundo are integral parts of the show, but i doubt they’ll want to work together again in any capacity for the foreseeable future. Time can only tell, but were here on The 434 will keep you posted.
