WWE has today confirmed that next year’s Royal Rumble PPV will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The event will be hosted on Sunday 29 January 2017. This isn’t the first time the Alamodome has staged the Royal Rumble, as they hosted the 1997 Royal Rumble which saw ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin win the 30-man rumble match.

Fans are hopeful that 2017’s Royal Rumble match will exceed the last few year’s disappointing endings. In 2014, Batista walked out the winner to heavy boos after fan favourite Daniel Bryan wasn’t featured in the match. The next year Roman Reigns walked out to even bigger boos and petitions online to cancel the WWE Network. Daniel Bryan was in the match that time, but eliminated early. This year’s match was received much better after Triple H eliminated Dean Ambrose and then-champ Roman Reigns to win the WWE World Championship, but some fans still weren’t impressed.

After WWE’s positive treatment of fan favourite wrestlers so far this year, things are looking up as we head towards January’s Royal Rumble.

What do you think of the location for the Royal Rumble 2017? Who are your early picks to win the Rumble?
