With the truth around the Kurt Angle text messages finally revealed, many fans believed that this would be the storyline that would lead to a wrestling return. Given the fairly quick reveal, it appeared this would be sooner rather than later, potentially as soon as Summerslam on August 20th. Based on current rumours, it is being suggested that this is not the case.

Cageside Seats have reported that WWE is not planning on Angle returning to the ring anytime soon. If accurate, this is a major blow to many who believed that this storyline and the active role Kurt has taken as General Manager of Raw would be the first steps towards him returning to a WWE ring for the first time in 11 years.

Many suspected that the build to this years Summerslam was going to lead to an Angle match. Most fans had speculated that somehow the current storyline would lead into a Triple H return, and a showdown at one of the biggest WWE PPV’s of the year.

WWE clearly saw value in a return to WWE for Kurt Angle. They made the effort to recognise his achievements and this led to his Hall of Fame induction in Orlando, Florida. They then followed up with his return to weekly programming as Raw GM. There have also been WWE Network specials focusing on his comeback. Yet the most important aspect of the return has been his inclusion as the pre-order bonus for this years WWE video game, WWE 2K18. We have seen in previous years that this usually leads to a WWE in-ring appearance, with Sting and Goldberg being notable examples.

Whilst there is still time for Angle to return to the ring, WWE would be wise to not wait too long for a return. With respect, Angle is coming towards the end of his career, and there are still plenty of matches WWE fans would love to see. In recent years, wrestling fans will have seen Angle face off against major wrestling talents like Sting, Samoa Joe, and AJ Styles in TNA. However there are many matches for the Olympic Hero to have before he hangs up his boots. Matches against Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt or Shinsuke Nakamura would be dream matches that would excite the WWE universe. Such matches would ensure many casual fans tuning back into WWE to see the return of a wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer.

A 3 time Wrestlemania attendee, I was there when the Streak ended, when Rousey hip-tossed HHH, and when Shane jumped off the cell and missed. Attending Wrestlemania has led to the making of great friends, and I've had some really good times. For example I've sang Grado/Madonna's "Like A Prayer" in the Dallas hotel lobby at 2am with fellow Scots, Canadians, and Australians, and "Too Sweeted" anyone that walked past. Its expensive to go to Wrestlemania all the way from Scotland, so I didn't make it to see the Hardyz return this year, but hopefully I will return to New Orleans in order to "Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler".
