Last night at Smackdown’s Battleground pay-per-view, WWE Champion Jinder Mahal retained his WWE Championship against Randy Orton in a Punjabi Prison Match. He got some help from The Singh Brothers and the returning, Great Khali.
It is being reported that WWE no longer has plans to push Mahal as the top champion of the company. There could be a few reasons behind this. Smackdown has been suffering from low ratings since the Orton/Mahal feud began. It also looks like that WWE has done enough in the Indian market in these 3 months to make the company popular there. Many fans aren’t happy with Jinder’s push. The biggest reason maybe this one. For a few weeks, Smackdown hasn’t sold out all seats and pictures of alot of empty sections were revolving around the internet. Quite surprisingly, even the Battleground pay-per-view had many empty seats and wasn’t fully sold out.
There is speculation that Jinder Mahal is set to lose his title within 30 days. This is most likely going to happen at Summerslam or maybe, we might see a twist through Baron Corbin eventually cashing in his Money In The Bank Contract. If not, then it will most likely happen at Summerslam against his rumored opponent, John Cena who is rumored to win his 17th WWE Title at the biggest event of the summer.
