After the brand split last year, people believed that RAW would be be the better brand as it had more star power, but it didn’t happen. Smackdown was the brand which gave fans what they wanted. Fans called it the “A Show”. The brand gave everyone a reason to tune in every Tuesday night.
Smackdown put on great pay-per-view shows since the draft took place. RAW had lower ratings than Smackdown almost every week. The blue brand featured great matches and storylines. But fans started to lose interest after the Superstar Shakeup. One reason is that most of its top stars like Bray Wyatt and The Miz were moved to RAW. But the major reason is the show’s head writer being switched.
NXT’s former head writer who rarely disappointed NXT fans was moved to join the Smackdown roster as the head writer a few weeks before the draft. Ryan Wars made Smackdown the fan favorite brand by writing some awesome storylines. But unfortunately, he was replaced by Road Dogg at the end of 2016. Road Dogg continued Ward’s great work until Wrestlemania but after the Superstar Shakeup, the fans started to lose interest in it. Road Dogg has been the head writer of Smackdown since last December.
