IT wasn’t that long ago that women’s matches in the World Wrestling Entertainment were considered the “popcorn match”, But quickly, that has changed, now women’s wrestling in the WWE is must see — no one is going anywhere, for any popcorn.
During her recent swing through Australia and New Zealand, Sasha Banks was asked to reflect on the amazing strides she and the rest of the WWE’s women have made over the past couple years.
From NXT reminding/educating the company and significant portions of its fan-base that, yes, ladies can do anything their male counterparts can in this business, to the “Divas Revolution” and the dropping of that first term, to main eventing Raw, SmackDown and pay-per-view (PPV) events, The Boss and the current crop of women in WWE have changed the game.
When news.com.au asked the three-time Raw Women’s champion what’s next, The Boss went big:
I think the next goal is to main event a WrestleMania.
Sasha isn’t the first to suggest such an Idea, Current red brand champ Alexa Bliss openly hoped the women will headline next year’s Showcase of the Immortals in New Orleans back in April. WWE and its Superstars continuing to mention a women’s main event at WrestleMania means it is on the company’s radar as at least something they know is important to talk about, which is a start, and also pretty awesome considering it couldn’t be suggested without laughter as recently as a couple years ago.
Does the Idea of the women’s division Main eventing a Wrestlmania really seem like such an impossible idead? for me personally I would have to say No, I could see it happening and would gladly applaud it. Of course like so much in WWE they would need to make sure the story is right and the right people are involved.
We’ve already had a Mrs. Money in the Bank, how long before we get a women’s Royal Rumble? one step at a time.
