We are less than two weeks away from WWE’s second biggest PPV of the year, Summerslam, and the card is starting to shape quite nicely.
The main event for the Universal Title is going to tear the house down. Shinsuke Nakamura is fighting Jinder Mahal for the WWE Title, while Shane McMahon dons the black and white stripes as he referees AJ Styles vs Kevin Owens for the US Championship.
WWE’s other secondary title however, is yet to find a place on the card. Intercontinental Champion The Miz is yet to find a dance partner for Summerslam and there is no clear direction for the title.
There was talk of a feud with Jason Jordan coming out of the Miz TV segment last week but plans look to have changed in that regard.
One idea that they could run with is to have The Miz call out the entire locker room in a good, old-fashioned open challenge. There are plenty of guys on Raw without a match at Summerslam, so this could be a good way to utilise one of them as well as get the IC Title on the show.
Here are some guys that we think could answer the IC Title ‘Open Challenge’ at Summerslam.
As we mentioned before, Jordan and Miz had an altercation on Miz TV last week and many believed the two would lock horns at Summerslam. That looks to have changed, but there’s no reason why he couldn’t answer the challenge from the A-Lister.
He’s a talented young performer and is a part of one of the big angles on Raw right now, so giving him an opportunity to perform on the big stage would do wonders for the former American Alpha standout.
Not the most exciting option as we did see the same match at last year’s Summerslam, but Crews is again treading water. He is part of Titus Worldwide but is playing the supporting role right now to Akira Tozawa.
So why not give him a shot? He probably wouldn’t win, but it could resurrect his fledgling run under O’Neill’s tutelage.
Why? Because why not! The Gold Standard is a name and a surprise return at Summerslam would get people talking. He was expected to return to Smackdown and there’s no reason why he can’t return on the PPV and challenge Miz for a title he held during his last WWE run on more than one occassion.
Jeff or Matt Hardy
Wouldn’t this be cool? The Hardy’s looked set for a showdown with The Revival at Summerslam but unfortunately Scott Dawson has succumbed to a bicep injury. This leaves the legendary tag team without opponents, so why not utilise them elsewhere?
Either Jeff or Matt would make for a formidable opponent to the current champion, and it would be exciting to see either one back in contention for a singles title in WWE.
A Smackdown Superstar
This could be a cool option, and there are plenty of options. Chad Gable, Sami Zayn, or maybe even John Cena? It’s a cross-brand event so WWE could look to make use of it.
Who would you like to see The Miz face at Summerslam? Are WWE dropping the ball with him in the lead up to the PPV?
