Vince McMahon Reportedly Not Interested In Goldberg Return

Ever since Goldberg was announced as a pre-order bonus for upcoming WWE video game WWE 2K17, speculation has risen over his possible return to the ring. Well that speculation may be pointless, as WWE CEO Vince McMahon is apparently uninterested in Goldberg returning to WWE. Allegedly, Vince is not against Goldberg possibly returning to face Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series, but also isn’t pushing to make it happen.

There is no word on why McMahon is not high on the idea, but it probably stems back to Goldberg’s first WWE run. Goldberg has been critical of the company since leaving WWE, stating his hatred of how things work backstage. He also pointed out in a recent interview that him and Vince have not spoken since he left WWE.

Whilst we know that Vince McMahon doesn’t care about Goldberg returning, the man himself isn’t sure whether he’d want to return either. In an interview with Sportscenter, when asked about a possible WWE return, Goldberg replied:

I’m going to do a lot of soul-searching, and I’m going to talk to my family to figure out what Goldberg wants to do. At the end of the day, I’m greatly appreciative of all the fans that I was able to acquire over the years. I don’t want to bastardize anything I did, let’s just put it bluntly. So it’s a big decision. I’m an old man here. I’m 49 years old. A guy like Ric Flair at 49 could go out and do his character. A guy 49 going out and doing Goldberg again — I don’t know what the odds are. I have a 10-year-old boy. I got a wife who has never seen me wrestle, and I got a generation of kids who don’t know who the hell I am except for looking online. The biggest thing about being a wrestler, and being Goldberg gave me, was the ability to be a superhero for kids. I want the ability to be that guy again. But there’s a compromise here. To be that guy at 49 years old, do you risk losing your legacy? Is it something that I am going to regret?”.

Hopefully a decision can be made soon. It is probable that if Goldberg does want to come back to WWE, Vince McMahon will accept. Vince is a smart business man, and isn’t going to turn away an opportunity to make more money, and raise WWE 2K17 sales.
