Finn Balor vs AJ Styles is an incredible match up in every sense of the word. Here’s why I and millions of others absolutely can’t wait.
Due to an untimely illness we now know that both Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns have been declared medically unfit to compete at the TLC PPV. The biggest news to come from this development is undoubtedly that Kurt Angle will be competing in a WWE ring for the first time in over a decade, replacing Roman Reigns alongside The Shield. However, even with the inclusion of the veteran Olympian, many fans will be more drawn to another match entirely thanks to the stellar news that Finn Balor will be facing Bray Wyatt replacement AJ Styles. As soon as the collective wrestling universe realised a match of this magnitude was even remotely possible fans have been patiently & metaphorically biting at WWE’s heels to get it made, although, considering the two men compete on separate brands this was always going to be a tough one to put together from a creative standpoint. Some may think the fact that a medical emergency is what has brought these two together might take the sting out of it, having removed the element of build-up opportunities. But to me, if anything, the spontaneity with which the match has been announced only adds to the drama and the excitement. It’s actually refreshing for WWE to not shy away from it’s audience in times of trouble and to take the plunge in making a match of this magnitude as developments are on the fly.
From a technical standpoint this has all the makings to be one of the very best clashes of 2017. Both men have spent well over a combines two decades proving they are the very best in the business when it comes to in-ring acrobatic ability and overall skill. While many are sending well-wishes to Bray Wyatt it’s not overly offensive to admit this could be Finn Balor’s saving grace from a feud many believed to be floundering and is a shot in the arm I’m sure Styles fans will welcome with open arms.
With exceptional performances this could easily set up both men for bigger and better things heading towards the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania. If this isn’t the definition of making the best of a bad situation I don’t know what is.
Here’s to this weekend’s action & best wishes to all those affected by this untimely illness.
