This past Sunday at No Mercy, John Cena failed in his quest to tie the record with his 16th World title victory in a triple threat match against AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose.
It is well-known that Cena is about to go on another hiatus from WWE to film his reality show American Grit and will likely be gone for a large chunk of the remainder of the year.
According to Cageside Seats, Cena’s latest hiatus from WWE is expected to start after Oct. 15’s house show in Phoenix. After that, he’s only scheduled for Survivor Series and then a Madison Square Garden house show in late December.P
Plans aren’t set for Cena at Survivor Series, but the likelihood is he will be on one of the SmackDown vs. Raw matches while AJ Styles continues to work with Dean Ambrose.
Cena’s aforementioned quest for a record 16th World title will resume when he returns, and despite his not being advertised for it, could include challenging AJ (who will leave his feud with Ambrose with the belt) at TLC.
Smart booking would say they find a way to stretch the big win for Cena out until Wrestlemania 33, but we’ll see where the wind takes us there.
