NXT this week came from San Antonio as Tyler Bate & Trent Seven battled UK Champion Pete Dunne and Mark Andrews. Also in action was Peyton Royce vs Kairi Sane & Street Profits vs Tino Sabbatelli & Riddick Moss.
As good as Nigel McGuiness is on commentary, his absence from this episode made for just the two commentators, and while we would certainly prefer McGuiness over Percy Watson, this episode provided further evidence that WWE needs to move back to the two0man commentary team; it just flows so much better.
Street Profits defeated Tino Sabbatelli & Riddick Moss. Grade: B. A very fun match that was given a good lengthy amount of time; Street Profits are just beyond entertaining and the crowd was very much behind them. Moss & Sabbatelli improve with every performance and had the crowd firmly against them. Two very different teams with great chemistry together and a receptive crowd led to a great match. As a side note; these two teams are two of the best theme songs in wrestling today.
Kairi Sane defeated Peyton Royce. Grade: B- Another fun match here, Kairi Sane is an absolute megastar and is without a doubt the premier worker in the NXT Women’s Division, and maybe the WWE women’s division as a whole. Peyton Royce and Billie Kay came out with ‘I Love Billie/I Love Peyton’ shirts on, and I must say, I concur. They have become so incredibly entertaining and a real highlight of NXT.
Announced for next week is Ruby Riot vs Sonya Deville in a No Holds Barred Match; as a final blow-off as both women have progressed to the main roster on Smackdown Live & Raw respectively. We will also see Andrade Cien Almas and his NXT Championship celebration.
Tyler Bate & Trent Seven (Moustache Mountain) defeated Pete Dunne & Mark Andrews. Grade: A. NXT did a good job with a few backstage interviews to give some stakes to the match and reasoning as to why the babyface Mark Andrews would team with the heel Pete Dunne, explaining that if Andrews & Dunne could win, Andrews would become the number one contender to the UK Championship. A very nice technical wrestling display particularly beginning with Dunne & Bate. A Frankensteiner from Andrews to Bate into a Sit-Out Powerbomb from Dunne sent the crowd wild. Mauro Ranallo calling Bate the human fidget spinner makes me laugh every time. An incredible match between four incredible wrestlers showing just how good the UK division really is. Post-match Dunne destroyed Andrews and stood tall to end the show.
