NXT saw both the new NXT Champion & NXT Women’s Champion Andrade Cien Almas & Ember Moon in one-on-one action. Authors of Pain got back on track after War Games and the match many have been waiting for; Adam Cole vs Aleister Black.
Andrade Cien Almas defeated Fabian Aichner. Grade: B. For someone who came into WWE as a Cruiserweight, Aichner has bulked up significantly and for a man his build to be able to do a Springboard Plancha like he did this week is beyond incredible. Aichner has no character, but moves like that will do him no harm. A good win for the new champion Almas who immediately feels like a big deal.
Authors of Pain defeated Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch. Grade: B. Lorcan & Burch did actually get some good momentum and had the crowd going but soon enough AOP proceeded to slaughter the new tag team. That Death Valley Driver into the turnbuckle is absolutely brutal but spectacular. AOP cannot be forgotten about with the recent addition of the heels the Undisputed Era.
Next week Pete Dunne will defend the United Kingdom Championship against Tyler Bate. While each of their matches together have been match of the year candidates, hopefully WWE doesn’t overdo this feud too quickly. In saying that if they perform like they have in the past together, I’d happily watch these two wrestler each other forever. Next week will also see Sanity defend the NXT Tag Team Championships against The Undisputed Era in Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly.
Ember Moon defeated Peyton Royce. Grade: B+ A solid match good for giving the new champion a victory over one of her competitors at Takeover War Games. Perhaps Ember won a little too easily but afterwards Billie Kay blasted Ember and the Iconic Duo attacked the new Champion before Nikki Cross oddly made the save. It will be interesting to see where this goes and what Nikki’s motivations were. Cross plays her crazy mental character so incredibly well.
Shayna Blazer is coming soon to NXT! I cannot wait to see what they do with her, I’d be all in for throwing her straight into the title scene, she has the legitimacy to justify it.
Aleister Black defeated Adam Cole. Grade: B+ This match felt like a big deal from the onset and the match itself allowed both men to shine. Black’s strikes came across as absolutely lethal while Cole was as loud, arrogant and ignorant as ever. Aleister Black won with the Black Mass Kick; it is curious as to why WWE are handing Cole clean losses at this point but perhaps with the win at War Games they want to focus on their group mentality and the slimy heel that Cole is so good at being. A really good match, but I feel we have barely scratched the surface of what these two are capable of together.
