The final episode of NXT for 2017 saw the number one contender for the NXT Championship was determined as four of NXT’s best battled for the chance to face Andrade Cien Almas at NXT Takeover Philadelphia. Ember Moon also defended the NXT Women’s Championship against Absolutions Sonya Deville.
Street Profits defeated Chris Star & Riley Apex. Grade: B- The Street Profits continue to be a fun tag team with another good win against a local talent tag team. After the match they cut a promo and mentioned both the Authors of Pain & Undisputed Era, a sign that bigger things may be on the horizon for the Street Profits.
Ember Moon retained the NXT Women’s Championship defeating Sonya Deville. Grade: C+ The match was fine but silly; Deville beats the leader of the Riott Squad and then gets a title match, only for the member of the big heel faction on Raw to lose decisively. Post-match was fantastic with Kiri Sane making her intentions known that she wants Moons title, before Shayna Baszler debuted choking out Sane in front of Moon. Baszler immediately looks like a huge threat in the NXT Women’s Division.
Next week we will see a review of NXT in 2017 while in two weeks’ time Sanity will get their rematch for the NXT Tag Team Championships against Undisputed Era.
Johnny Gargano defeated Aleister Black, Lars Sullivan and Killian Dain to become the number one contender for the NXT Championship. Grade: B. A really good match had all the right parts; a god stare down between both big men and both baby face heroes, a great table spot trying to wipe out Sullivan who was built as the monster of NXT, and the result literally everyone wanted. Undisputed Era taking out and costing Black his first NXT loss is a great story waiting to be told, Sullivan & Dain are hardly hurt by the loss and Gargano is cleared for take-off. Just don’t forget about one specific Psycho Killer…
